✔️[ASKBOB] The question I forgot to answer...

Published: Fri, 05/15/20

Hi All,

I've gotten several emails about RemotePC since the special offer ended a few days ago. The most common question I get is one that I should have answered, but didn't. Here's the gist of it:

"I don't understand how I can connect remotely to the computer of a friend or relative, if they don't have the RemotePC software. Can you help me with that?"

I did mention that RemotePC can be used as a handy tool to help another person with a computer problem, by connecting remotely to their desktop or laptop. Here's an excerpt from my RemotePC Q&A:

Q: Can I use RemotePC to help a friend or relative with a computer problem?
A: Yes, RemotePC is a great tech support tool. You can access your friend's desktop or laptop just like you were physically present. Install software, configure a printer, run a malware scan, or show them how to sort column B in that spreadsheet. You get the idea, right?

The thing I didn't explain is exactly how to do that, and it turns out it's pretty simple.

Your friend (let's call her Alice) would need to download the RemotePC software from the RemotePC website (there's no charge for that). After launching the RemotePC software, Alice needs to login to YOUR RemotePC account. You can give her the login/password info over the phone. (I'll explain why that's okay in just a bit)

Alice would then click a few buttons to add her computer to your account, assign a Personal Key to it, and log out. Alice calls you with that Personal Key, and from there you could remotely connect to her computer with your RemotePC account. Now you can change your RemotePC account password. Done!

Because so many people had this unanswered question, I asked the folks at iDrive if they would honor the special RemotePC discount price, just for today Friday, May 15th -- and they agreed. So you've got one more chance...

Get one year of RemotePC (on up to 10 computers) for only $3.48.

If you missed my earlier review of RemotePC with the full Q&A, check it out here, and if you still have questions just email me and I'll do my best to get you a personal answer ASAP. I don't want anyone to miss out on this special offer. I'll be back on Monday with a new article -- see you then!
